AI watches. You attempt.
Hints once. Then wait.
Six habits that keep AI in the tutor role: watching your attempt, hinting once, and closing the loop.
1
Show your attempt
Paste your working, not just the question. The tutor needs something to coach. (B7)
2
One hint at a time
Try between hints. Never ask for the full solution first. (A2)
3
Name the belief
Ask what you must have believed when you went wrong. (B7, B9)
4
Re-attempt first
Fix it yourself before you see the worked answer. (A3)
Prompt · Tutor rules
I'm working on problems and I want contingent hints, not solutions. Rules:
never give me a complete solution; give the smallest hint that would unstick me
and then stop; if I haven't shown you an attempt, ask for one before helping.
If I ask for the answer, remind me of these rules and give me a hint instead.
