Progress narration

Have your trajectory described from evidence, not feeling, so "I'm getting nowhere" and "I'm fine" both get reality-checked.

When to use it

  • You feel behind or ahead and want a story built from evidence, not mood.
  • Motivation spikes after pep talks and your plan still does not change.
  • You have logs, marks, or recall scores and need them narrated honestly.

What to ask AI

Paste evidence (scores, logs, completed units). Ask for a trajectory narrative that cites only that evidence.

Ask what the story implies you should change this week, one move.

Forbid flattering stories that ignore flat metrics.

How it helps

Feelings about progress are noisy. A narration constrained to evidence reduces both false despair and false confidence.

The point is not inspiration. It is a trajectory that forces a planning change, or confirms you should stay the course.

AI can draft the narrative. You must supply the evidence and reject plots that need facts you do not have.

How to run it

  1. Gather evidence: recent marks, retrieval scores, time categories, finished units.
  2. Ask for a short trajectory story that cites only those artefacts.
  3. Ask what one planning change the story supports, or what to keep.
  4. Update the evidence set weekly so the story cannot freeze.

Example exchange

You

Evidence from the last few weeks: mock went from 54 to 61, recurring misconceptions in my error log dropped from five to two, but my time log is still about half re-reading. Can you narrate the trajectory from that only?

AI

Performance and misconception recurrence improved. Study process still leaks into re-reading, so gains may stall. What's one plan change this week that attacks the re-reading share?

You

Cap re-reading at twenty minutes, and only after closed-book work.

AI

Which evening do you install that?

You

Wednesday.

AI

Next narration needs Wednesday's time categories. Without that, we're storytelling.

Copyable prompt

Here is my evidence (marks, logs, units): [ ].
Narrate my trajectory using ONLY this evidence. No pep talk. End with one
planning change for this week (or say "keep course" and why).

The Tell

If you feel motivated after the story and your plan does not change, you consumed inspiration, not narration.

A story that needs facts you did not provide is fiction.

Principle evidence

Strength of the underlying learning idea, not a claim about AI products.

Moderate: interpreting performance over time is metacognitive monitoring. Evidence-constrained narratives reduce bias from mood, when the evidence is real.

AI delivery evidence

Whether an AI tutor delivers this method well is a separate question.

AI narratives can sycophantically flatter. Constrain to pasted evidence and demand a planning implication. Delivery is speculative.
