Process narration

Hear (and then reproduce) a mechanism narrated step by step in time, so static diagrams become causal movies you can rerun.

When to use it

  • You recognise a cycle diagram but cannot say what happens next without looking.
  • Your notes are static snapshots of a process that is actually temporal.
  • You need to turn a flowchart into a causal movie you can rerun.

What to ask AI

Type something like: “Narrate the Calvin cycle as a causal sequence in time: numbered beats, what changes, what stays the same. Then hide details and make me re-narrate. End with one ‘what if this beat fails?’”

Ask it not to dump jargon lists.

You re-narrate; that is the learning event.

How it helps

Many “understandings” are frozen pictures. Process narration forces temporal order: what changes, what causes the next change, what is conserved.

When you can rerun the movie, the diagram stops being decoration.

How to run it

  1. Ask for a beat-by-beat narration with change and conservation made explicit.
  2. Close it and re-narrate yourself.
  3. Repair only the beats you dropped.
  4. Answer one failure-of-a-beat question.
  5. Return to the diagram and label the beats in your own words.

Example exchange

You

Narrate action potentials in clear beats, then I’ll retell without looking. Keep it numbered so I can restart mid-sequence.

AI

1) Resting potential. 2) Depolarisation to threshold. 3) Sodium influx and rising phase. Your turn from beat 2,no notes.

You

Threshold, sodium rushes in, rising phase… then potassium goes out for repolarisation?

AI

You skipped inactivation of the sodium channels. Re-say beats 3 through 5 with that in place.

Copyable prompt

Narrate [PROCESS] as a causal sequence in time: numbered beats, what changes at
each beat, what stays the same. No jargon dump. Then hide details and ask me to
re-narrate. After that, ask one "what if this beat fails?" question.

The Tell

You know this method has flipped when you recognise the diagram and still cannot say what happens next.

Recognition is not a runnable model.

Close the figure and re-narrate until the next beat is automatic.

Principle evidence

Strength of the underlying learning idea, not a claim about AI products.

The underlying learning idea is rated moderate. Step-by-time process narration supports causal/temporal models and can reduce extraneous load versus static jumble (related to multimedia sequencing. Mayer).

AI delivery evidence

Whether an AI tutor delivers this method well is a separate question.

Principle moderate; AI mechanism accuracy speculative.
