Disagreement practice
Hold a correct position against a confident challenge, without folding to tone, and without defending errors you should concede.
When to use it
- You fold when a confident voice says “actually…” even when you were right.
- You have twenty minutes and want to practise holding a position under fire.
- An oral exam or seminar rewards calm defence, not quick surrender.
What to ask AI
Type something like: “I will defend this claim: [ ]. Attack it confidently for 8 turns. One point per turn.”
Require that you may concede real errors, but not fold to tone alone.
Keep score of what you conceded and why.
How it helps
Being right is not the same as staying right under pressure.
Disagreement practice trains you to hold a correct position against a confident challenge without defending errors you should concede.
The skill is discrimination: which attacks land, and which are only loud?
How to run it
- State a claim you believe is correct, with reasons.
- Invite confident, specific attacks, one point per turn.
- Answer; concede only when the attack truly lands.
- After eight turns, list concessions and unbroken pillars.
- Rewrite the claim to reflect only what survived.
Example exchange
Claim: a p-value below 0.05 does not by itself prove a hypothesis true. Attack confidently, one point per turn.
Turn 1: journals treat p < 0.05 as proof, so in practice it does mean true.
That’s a social fact about misuse, not what a p-value is. I concede journals misuse it; I don’t concede the definition.
Turn 2: if you won’t call it proof, how do you ever decide anything?
Copyable prompt
I will defend this claim: [ ]. My reasons: [ ]. Attack it confidently and
specifically for 8 turns. One point per turn. I may concede real errors but
must not fold to tone. Afterward ask me what survived.
The Tell
If you change positions when the AI says “actually…” and cannot say what evidence forced the change, you practised submission.
If you never concede anything, you may be defending errors. The skill includes knowing when to yield.
Principle evidence
Strength of the underlying learning idea, not a claim about AI products.
The underlying learning idea is rated moderate. Holding a correct position against challenge trains argumentation and intellectual resilience. Related to oral assessment and deliberate practice under pressure.
AI delivery evidence
Whether an AI tutor delivers this method well is a separate question.
AI tone can be overconfident or wrong. Your job includes not folding to false certainty. Delivery is speculative.
